The Magellan Project

The Magellan Project, unique to Washington & Jefferson College, gives students the opportunity to complete an independent research project almost anywhere in the world. The Magellan committee strives to provide students with the funding and support necessary to study their passions, even if it has nothing to do with their academic major!

Students plan their dream trips independently and submit a detailed proposal, including a budget and loose itinerary, to the Magellan committee for approval.

Typically, students complete their projects by themselves, as it is an excellent way to become self-sufficient and confident in one's own abilities. The Magellan Project is meant to provide students with a unique experience for both academic and personal growth.
